In many rural communities in Africa, the population has no access to diagnostics or they do not know the importance of a correct diagnosis in order to receive soon the correct treatment, and this has consequences for the health of the sick person and of the whole community&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>taking longer to receive treatment thus the disease progresses&nbsp;<\/li><li>specially the children can be in serious danger if they don\u2019t receive the treatment soon&nbsp;<\/li><li>continuing the transmission, therefore more people getting infected&nbsp;<\/li><li>self-diagnosticating&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li><li>confusing symptoms that can be due to other diseases&nbsp;<\/li><li>self-medicating&nbsp;<\/li><li>not following directions to complete the correct treatment, hence contributing to the resistance of the parasite to antimalaria medicines such as artemisinin; or contributing to mutations that makes it difficult to identify <em>P. falciparum <\/em>in the tests<em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key points for the diagnostic: &nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>if suspected to be malaria, it must be confirmed within the first 24 hours with parasitological methods&nbsp;<\/li><li>to inform the family<\/li><li>to inform the Leader of the community&nbsp;<\/li><li>If within the community there are leaders attributing the disease to ancestral spirits, he will take care of the spiritual area and the health worker will cooperate to cure the body, complementing the natural remedies under the supervision of the Doctor&nbsp;<\/li><li>go to the health centre or to see the closest health worker&nbsp;<\/li><li>the health worker will take blood sample&nbsp;<\/li><li>the test done by a trained worker with experience would guarantee a reliable result&nbsp;<\/li><li>sometimes it is necessary to repeat a negative test, every 6-8 hours, up to 3 days, if the suspicion is high&nbsp;<\/li><li>once confirmed, to receive the correct treatment&nbsp;<\/li><li>complete the treatment, even though the person can feel well before it is finished&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diagnostic Methods:&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>microscopic methods (ideally binocular microscope) &nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>thick smear test: to observe and to quantify parasites&nbsp;<\/li><li>peripheral blood smear: to identify the species and to quantify the parasites&nbsp;<\/li><li>molecular methods&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Polymerase chain reaction (PCR): amplification of genetic material; high sensitivity, it can detect coinfections and cases of symptomatic malaria, and it eliminates observer subjectivity; it is recommended for countries in the process of eradicating malaria or when they already have the certificate of malaria free countries&nbsp;<\/li><li>Malaria rapid diagnostic test (TDR), it detects antigens produced by the parasite, it is easy, fast, economical, and it is recommended for places of difficult access and without laboratories&nbsp;<\/li><li>Serological tests&nbsp;<\/li><li>new methods &nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>LAMP method in isothermal amplification&nbsp;<\/li><li>automatic microscopy&nbsp;<\/li><li>Artificial intelligence combining images of analysis, microscope, mobile and app&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is a crucial strategy for the disease control.
